Sharing the Joy of the Saint Louis Zoo
By Laura Herring, Heritage Society member
Who has walked into the Zoo and not left with a smile? Having grown up in St. Louis, I can remember holding my father's hand as he showed me Phil the gorilla. While terrifying, it was also nice to know what a real gorilla looked like!
Forward some 65 years later. My husband, Mike, and I are enjoying introducing our two grandchildren, Kennedy and Luca, to the thrill of running through the Zoo to see exotic and beautiful animals. We have always felt blessed that we have such a phenomenal zoo in St. Louis. When we take friends from around the world to the Zoo, they are amazed at its beauty as well as the breadth of animals we have. I am impressed that the Zoo is not only for our entertainment, but also is dedicated to saving many species of animals through conservation work internationally.
That is why Mike and I are including the Zoo in our estate plan. We met with Michael Geis, an estate planner with Thompson & Associates whose services the Zoo offers. We learned how we could support the Zoo long after we're gone so that Kennedy's and Luca's families can experience the joy of playing at the Saint Louis Zoo.
St. Louis is truly blessed, and we feel blessed that we can help continue the family tradition of the Saint Louis Zoo.
If our zoo is important to you and you want to ensure its future for generations to enjoy, consider a gift to the Saint Louis Zoo in your estate plan. Contact the Planned Giving Office at (314) 646-4973 or plannedgiving@stlzoo.org to learn more about your options today.
