A Beary Lovely Legacy
Carol Loeb has a thing for bears. She has a vast collection of teddy bears of all sizes and personalities, and her den hosts two giant plush bears — a grizzly and a panda. Her granddaughters helped name them, and their commanding yet whimsical presence simply makes Carol happy.
Carol and her late husband, Jerry, traditionally had supported education projects over the years, a path Carol has maintained since his passing in 2004. Both talented mathematicians at heart, the Loebs have funded a number of programs to foster excellence in teaching and scholarly achievement in math and science. Carol has been a math teacher for over 50 years, imparting her love and knowledge of the subject to generations of students. Currently she specializes in preparing students for college entrance exams and applying the principles of math throughout their lives.
Combining her love of bears and education with the joy she gets from seeing the wonderment of families connecting with bears "nose to nose" through the glass exhibit walls, Carol is thrilled to support the Zoo as an outdoor classroom. Never forgetting that the Zoo is a free-admission haven for the everyday visitor, Carol finds satisfaction in remembering the Zoo with an estate gift from her IRA. It represents a wonderful legacy that is tax-wise, too!
Like their parents, Carol and Jerry's daughter, Kelly, and late son, Dan; their spouses; and five children have enjoyed the Zoo over the years. "I am happy to support an institution that is vital to our community," Carol says, "and that has provided my family countless hours of enjoyment, creating many treasured memories."
Supporting the Saint Louis Zoo with a gift from your IRA is simple, and we can help. Contact the Planned Giving Office at (314) 646-4973 or plannedgiving@stlzoo.org for assistance.
